Location: Numata City, Gunma Prefecture
A one-hour Shinkansen ride from Tokyo, followed by a 20-minute bus or car trip, will take you to Numata City, Gunma Prefecture. This land, deeply connected to the Sanada clan, is also known as the "castle town in the sky" because of its unique terraced river topography. After taking in the powerful views of the Fukiware Falls, which is often called the "Niagara of the East," why not relax and let your daily fatigue melt away in a hot spring? Numata is a city full of charm where you can experience history, nature, and hot springs all at once.
A Cozy Homestay Experience
Renshin-an is a small, family-run B&B and vegan restaurant. The building was originally a restaurant that was loved by the locals for many years. We fell in love with its red brick exterior walls, orange tiled roof that stands out against the blue sky, and its nostalgic Showa-era interior. We renovated a part of the rooms on the second floor to welcome guests. Conveniently located within walking distance of a train station, convenience stores, bus stops, and a shopping mall, we are an ideal base for travelers wishing to explore more of the Tone-Numata area.
Vegan Cuisine Made with Local Tone-Numata Ingredients
At Renshin-an's restaurant, we lovingly prepare vegan cuisine using an abundance of fresh vegetables produced in the Tone-Numata area. Our dishes are made exclusively with plant-based ingredients, completely free of animal products. With influences from traditional Taiwanese vegetarian cuisine, our goal is to provide meals that gently nourish the body and soul, while also showing care for animals and the environment.
Diners are always welcome to come for a meal only. We also operate a cafe on an irregular basis, so please check our Instagram (@numata_renshinan) for updates.

Please note that we do not offer a room-only plan. Breakfast is included for each guest. Dinner is optional and can be added to your reservation.

Our Japanese-Western room is just the right size for two guests. It can accommodate up to four people, recommended for families with small children. Of course it can also be used comfortably by solo travelers.

This is a single room with a bed. With an addition of a futon on the floor, it can be used by maximum two guests, if small sized spaces can be tolerated.

The toilet, washroom, and bath are shared with the host.
The Tone-Numata area is home to many fantastic hot springs where you can enjoy a day-trip bath, including Oigami Onsen, Shirasawa Kogen Onsen, Nango Onsen, and Kawaba Onsen.
We also offer a shuttle service for a fee, so please feel free to ask us for details.

Usage Guide
· Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. (For course dinners, please reserve at least 3 days in advance.)
· No smoking or alcohol is allowed anywhere on the premises. Please refrain from bringing alcoholic beverages into your room.
Check-in: 15:00–20:00 / Check-out: 11:00 Curfew: 21:00
(Extended to 22:00 during local events such as the Numata Festival or fireworks shows)
Long-term stays (e.g., for workcations, homestays) are welcome!
Infants
If bedding and meals are not needed, they are not counted in the number of guests. Free stay.
Children’s Breakfast
We correspond to requests for smaller portions or no meal. If no meal, we will deduct the fee from the room charge.
Pets Please consult by phone before booking.
Conditions: Under 10kg, used to travel, house-trained, must be fully controlled by the owner at all times.
Restrictions:
・ If another guest has animal allergies, pet stays may be declined.
・ Guests must bring the pet's food, bed, cage, and other necessities.
・ Pet diapers are required in guest rooms and the dining area.
・ Do not leave pets alone in the room or unattended.
・ Clean up any accidents immediately and notify the host.
・ The host bears no responsibility for any pet-related incidents not attributable to the host.
Meals
At Renshin-an’s restaurant, we proudly serve heartfelt vegan meals made with fresh vegetables from the Tone-Numata region. Influenced by traditional Taiwanese vegetarian cuisine, our meals are prepared with care for animals, health, and the planet.

・ No alcohol is used in any food or beverages.
・ Allium-free(Oriental Vegan) options available upon request.

・ Reservations required at time of booking.
・ Served between 17:30–20:00.
・ We recommend our vegan course meal (reservation required 3 days in advance).
・ A la carte available if course not selected.

Breakfast
All staying guests will be served a vegan breakfast.
Takeout
Vegan bento and light meals are available for separate charges. Advance reservation is required for large quantities.

Approx. 15 minutes from Numata IC on the Kan-Etsu Expressway. Parking available.
By Public Transportation
From Numata Station (JR Joetsu Line):
・ 20-minute walk, or
・ 3 minutes by bus + 7 minutes walk or
・ Taxi 3 minutes ride, approx. ¥730
(Free pickup available for staying guests)
Note: The road from Numata station to Renshin-an is extremely steep. Guests with heavy luggage, children, or mobility issues are encouraged to use a bus or taxi.

・ Kamata Line or Sarugakyo Line: Get off at the first bus stop"Terrace Numata / City Hall" (¥180)
・ Kawaba Circulation Line: Get off at the second stop "Terrace Numata / City Hall"(¥180)

From Jomokogen Station (Joetsu Shinkansen):

You may ride the Joetsu Shinkansen and get off at Jomokogen station then take the bus(separate fee), or take either the Joetsu Shinkansen or the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Takasaki station, then transfer to the JR Joetsu local line and get off at Numata Station.
